Marketing of hybrid grapes is prohibited in France

The marketing of wines from hybrid grape varieties is prohibited in France. Hybrid grape varieties are still cultivated but the consumption of the wines must remain family. Stéphane Balay’s documentary film « Vitis Prohibita » investigates these prohibited grape varieties in France, Austria, Switzerland and the USA.

Looking for hybrid grapes in USA

Here are some vineyards growing hybrid grape varieties. Many of them are located north of New York state, in the Hudson Valley. Hybrid grapes in USA don’t seem so numerous even if it is their country of origin for many of them. Of course, this list is not exhaustive.
